This Night’s Battle by Blair Gaulton

This Night’s Battle
Body freezes;
cannot sleep.
Mind seizes;
chance to fight back.
Blankets ‘n’ heat do not work;
must be blood sugar.
Yes, it is low.
quickly eat something;
I warm up very slow.
At least now I know.

Curmudgeony Butterfly by Blair Gaulton

Curmudgeony Butterfly
Blood sugar suddenly dives;
I feel like a curmudgeony butterfly;
out of place;
don’t really enjoy this space.

Blood Sugar’s Slalom by Blair Gaulton

Blood Sugar’s Slalom
Blood sugar slaloms around;
up and down;
as I fight to keep it on course.

Pastry ‘n’ Fog by Blair Gaulton

Pastry ‘n’ Fog
Mind pastried;
by thought;
as blood sugar’s fog dawns.

Recovering from a Blood Sugar Slam Dunk by Blair Gaulton

Recovering from a
Blood Sugar Slam Dunk
Blood sugar slam dunks;
making me feel woozy
as if drunk.
I butterfly to the fridge;
grab some apple juice.
Drink it down;
to  pull out of the ocean’s ridges.
Resurfacing slowly;
finally bobbing up;
as my blood sugar returns to normal.

The Blood Sugar Snowplough by Blair Gaulton

The Blood Sugar Snowplough
An idea springs
from the blood sugar snowplough;
which ran me over…gone.
