Oral History

Books are a great source of knowledge. Talking to people is another source that does not seem to be valued enough.
If you think about things or events that happened before your time for example in the last 50 or so years and you want to learn more about it then ask someone you know who was alive at the time. Our parents and grandparents can tell us a lot of things, what life was like when they were young and they bring another perspective into recent history because of the experiences they have had.  It can give you a better understanding about history and your family’s role in it.  They can also give you insight into culture and traditions that you might not have known about. If you can ask them for permission to record some of your conversation, and they argee, do it so people many years from now can learn from their experiences as well.
